Evaluations
What to expect?
Some baseline assessments are recommended. As your child makes progress it is very helpful to go back and compare to his/her previous developmental levels. A full written evaluation however, is
not essential as your child’s skills can be assessed during the first few treatment sessions. In these difficult economic times some parents prefer not to get a complete written evaluation. A full OT or PT evaluation is recommended if a parent needs to present the findings to their local school district or if a parent desires to have all the findings in writing.
Standardized tests are used and depend on your child’s age and functional ability. Scores can provide you with a clear objective view of your child’s strengths and areas of concern. Your therapist will review the findings with you to insure a better understanding of your child.
Treatment
Private OT or PT can be
provided in your home or in our State of the Art Clinic. It should be discussed with our office staff as to whether your child would benefit from services in your home or our clinic. Every child and family presents with a unique set of needs / circumstances.
At Home services:
Parents find therapy services in their home to be highly convenient as many activities compete for your limited time. Home can provide insight into the child’s daily functioning that can not easily be gotten in any other way. Services at home can also assist the family in identifying real life scenarios that can make each day a little easier for all involved. At home equipment and home programs can be suggested that actually fit into the space and life of the family.
Our State of the Art Clinic:
Our State of the Art clinic has oodles of therapeutic equipment that children find highly motivating. Our clinic offers a service outside of the child’s usual routine which some children benefit from as it can help them focus and better tolerate structure.
Whether therapy is provided in your home or our clinic our primary goal is to work in a partnership with the parent identifying your priorities in treatment. Another major focus of our treatment is parent education. We believe in providing a better understanding of a child’s strengths and difficulties at the end of each and every session. Our agenda is to maximize a parent’s awareness and understanding of their child’s deficits as a child has no better advocate than the one that loves them the most, their parent.
A prescription is required from your child’s doctor prior to beginning therapy services. (Also see the FAQ’s about Private Therapy)
