Private Evaluations
What to expect?
Some baseline assessments are recommended. As your child makes progress it is very helpful to go back and compare to his/her previous developmental levels. A full written evaluation however, is not essential as your child’s skills can be assessed during the first few treatment sessions. In these difficult economic times some parents prefer not to get a complete written evaluation. A full OT or PT evaluation is recommended if a parent needs to present the findings to their local school district or if a parent desires to have all the findings in writing.
Standardized tests are used and depend on your child’s age and functional ability. Scores can provide you with a clear objective view of your child’s strengths and areas of concern. Your therapist will review the findings with you to insure a better understanding of your child.
School District Evaluations
What to expect?
We provide school based OT or PT evaluations for our large school district contracts as well as perform isolated evaluations for those districts that need a second opinion. Our evaluations follow a school based criteria that identifies measureable delays in academic functioning. PT evaluations assess whether a child is safe in his/her school environment and whether they can successfully navigate or maneuver through that environment. OT evaluations assess a child’s fine motor dexterity, handwriting skills, tool use, ability to engage in perceptual motor activities (i.e. puzzles, manipulatives), spatial planning activities and successfully spatially navigate the environment.
Standardized tests are utilized to provide the district and parent with scores that indicate the child’s ability to function within the school environment. The findings are taken into consideration with the teacher report and criteria for service. The evaluation presents an objective view of whether or not therapy is indicated academically.
