Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT)
Neurodevelopmental Treatment was developed by Dr. Karel and Berta Bobath, from their extensive experience working with individuals with cerebral palsy. The use of handling techniques in order to encourage more mature motor patterns and increase function are the primary goals. Emphasis of treatment is on inhibiting abnormal patterns of movement and posture and facilitating the greatest possible variety of normal motor patterns. By inhibiting these abnormal patterns muscle tone is reduced and the child can then move with greater ease, less effort, thru wider ranges of movement and gain more sensory motor experiences. Functional tasks are experienced with the therapist's help to provide the proper motor patterns needed and introduce new motor memories.
